Thanks ...That's really good information, Tony. Thanks for posting.

Apple is rumored to be rolling out a new mapping service of its own. We'll know more information on Monday.

I have a friend that works for AT&T. He doesn't know anything for sure, but he's seen the sales projections for the remainder of the year, and nothing about them indicates that Apple will be releasing the next iPhone until Fall.

Android IS very fragmeted. I've noticed that myself. This is the exact problem that Microsoft had with Windows Mobile about 10 years ago.

Microsoft's new approach is to have very uniform specs. All the Windows 7 phones are using the Qualcomm Snapdragon SBC. They all have the same memory specs, the same video resolution, the same EVERYTHING.

I'd love to know when WP8 comes out. There are some interesting rumors going around. The most intriguing one is that WP8 will be using the Windows NT kernel, and not Windows CE. That's huge news. This means it will probably be the ARM version of Windows 8.

Wow. An actual PC in your pocket. I've always said, if Microsoft can pull that off, they'll own the SmartPhone market...

Might be worth waiting for WP8 after all.Tom Abbotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02245728822327092684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1258832833257933108.post-74914364470824592642012-06-07T23:48:35.600-06:002012-06-07T23:48:35.600-06:00As far as hardware goes, the iPhone is mostly outc...As far as hardware goes, the iPhone is mostly outclassed by all the Android flagship phones available-ish. The new phones have faster CPU's, bigger glass, longer lasting batteries, 4G and Google's maps turn by turn ap. Siri is a gimmick, 3G is painfully slow and the data/power cable is proprietary. The iPhone 4s' camera, I still rave about, isn't the best anymore.

Yet somehow I still prefer my iPhone 4s. Even though Apple is the app tyrant, more quality apps are available for the iPhone. Having better apps is more important than having better hardware. The CEO of the company who produced my current favorite game, "Ticket to Ride", will not make a version for Android. He sites the ease to port the app for iOS because there are only two standards to create for. He said creating for Android really means creating for each phone, not just the Android OS. I have 4-5 great camera apps and an additional 4-6 photo editing apps. On my Android I have 2-3 phone apps I struggle to like. I have one photo editing app I'm willing to use.

I love my Kindle Fire. The Kindle app on my iPad 3 makes the Fire worthless for me unless I'm out of my house. (I don't travel with the iPad for work because it is too bulky because I have to have my laptop.)

Because I have a Kindle Fire and the new iPad I don't need a phone with a big screen. I like putting my phone in my front pants pocket and I don't like the amount of real estate required by a phone with a screen 4.3 or larger. Not everyone has a 7 and 10 inch tablet so my needs are probably different than most. Not everyone puts their phone in their front pocket.

Simply put, Google turn by turn navigation is the only app Android has that Apple is unable to match. I do like being able to customize the screen of my Android phone but my experience with HTC's Sense has soured me to Android. (There's a known memory leak issue that causes me to reset the phone to factory setting and reload EVERYTHING every 4-5 months.) The customization of Android has really made it a chaotic landscape. Don't even get me started with the lack of apps available for Android tablets.

I'd talk more about Windows 7 phones but I don't have one. I don't know if I've seen any in the wild. The idea of Xbox as an app makes a Windows 8 phone intriguing but I already complain of lack of apps for Android. There are more Blackberry's in the wild than Windows phones-- nuff said.

As far as carriers go I only have experience with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. My iPhone is on Sprint. Where I live in NC and all the way up I95 to Boston I have great coverage. When I have to travel to the desolate time zones that are not EST I know I don't have Verizon. My work choose Verizon because of their coverage and it has been a good choice. I used to have an AT&T phone. If I'm going to pay for an expensive subscription I'd rather go with Verizon.

If only Sony had put an Android phone inside the new PS Vita...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07700125384379129670noreply@blogger.com
